This is a new reading course. Within its historical and cultural context, we will learn to read the Aljamiado texts, which are manuscripts copied by the Moriscos in the 16th-17th century and written in Spanish in Arabic script. To better understand these texts, we will look at some aspects of codicology.
We will be meeting on Mondays from 5.30 to 7.00 pm, from 7 October 2013, at the Warburg Institute in the Droz Library. Participation is free. A basic reading knowledge of Spanish is required, and a basic knowledge of Arabic script is recommended, but not necessary.
